MERRIS, FRANCE: Australian chief of staff Peter Leahy attends 22 April 2005 at the Commonwealth cemetery in Merris, a ceremony for four Australian soldiers who died 14 April 1918 during World War I. The remains of four Australian World War I soldiers whose grave was uncovered by a farmer were laid to rest in France today a service attended by Australia's army chief, the defence department. "These soldiers died in service to their nation and it is fitting that we gather to remember them and formally pay tribute to their bravery and sacrifice," army chief Lieutenant General Leahy said in a department statement.
