CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA - August 18, 2017: MANDATORY CREDIT Bill Tompkins/Getty Images Street grafitti that reads 'ONCE A DRAGON...' at the Heather Heyer memorial on August 18, 2017 in Charlottesville. On August 12, 2017, a car was deliberately driven into a crowd of people who had been peacefully protesting the Unite the Right rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, killing one and injuring 28. The driver of the car, 20-year-old James Alex Fields Jr., had driven from Ohio to attend the rally. Fields previously espoused neo-Nazi and white supremacist beliefs. He was convicted in a state court of hit and run, the first-degree murder of 32-year-old Heather Heyer, and eight counts of malicious wounding, and sentenced to life in prison. On March 27, 2019, he pled guilty to 29 of 30 federal charges in exchange for the prosecutors not seeking the death penalty. (Photo by Bill Tompkins/Getty Images)
