Cairo residents buy traditional tin lant
CAIRO, EGYPT: Cairo residents buy traditional tin lanterns, known as Fanous Ramadan, on the second evening of Ramadan 05 October 2005. Ramadan, during which Muslims fast from dawn to dusk, began yesterday upon the sighting of the crescent moon. For those of limited means, the holy month, with its tradition of elaborate meals and new clothes for the feast that follows, can be a strain on the family budget, but the tin lanterns are usually affordable for all.
