A grotesque in the shape of Darth Vader is seen atop the north side of the National Cathedral in Washington, DC June 20, 2017. - There are 112 gargoyles and grotesques across the Cathedral. Gargoyles act as water spouts to divert water from the building via pipes running through their mouths and grotesques deflect water by bouncing it off the top of heads or other body parts. The official name of the Washington National Cathedral is the Cathedral Church of Saint Peter and Saint Paul.
