Ed Miliband interview; ENGLAND: Greater Manchester: Salford Royal Hospital:INTEd Miliband MP (Labour Leader) interview SOT - (on what the next election will be about) Think it will be mainly about who does this country work for, who does our economy work for, does it work for a few people at the top or does it work for most working people, and thats what I want to change because I think our economy doesn't work for most people and I don't think another five years of this government will fix it, I think it will make it worse / but clearly part of it is clearing the deficit, thats why we said yesterday in relation to our NSH proposals we are not going to borrow a penny more to pay for it / none of our proposals in manifesto will be paid for by additional borrowing- (on fact that he forgot to mention deficit in speech) I have a particular style of doing these leader speeches, think it creates a more direct connection with people, it means you miss some bits out, you add in other bits, if I did the speech again today I'd probably do it a different way / Ed Balls made very clear speech on Monday about how we were going to deal with the deficit, I was very clear about our NHS proposals, wouldn't be funded by higher borrowing - our proposals are that in the next Parliament we will get the national debt falling, we will have a surplus on current budget and none of proposals in manifesto will be funded by additional borrowing / on top of that have proposed some additional things that will help to reduce deficit like a 50p tax, taking winter fuel allowance away from the richest pensioners, keeping child benefit at one percent for the first two year's of the Parliament- (on black hole in economy) our plans clear, having a spending review - depends on growth in the economy and it depends on decisions we make on spending and indeed taxation / going to have to make some difficult decisions around reductions in public spending - whole basis of my speech was about ...
